Canadian Rail Updates

Dear Valued Customers,

This is to inform you that we’ve received some updates from our carriers that they have implemented to mitigate any potential impact on cargo in light of the potential disruption to Canadian rail services starting Thursday, August 22, 2024, due to ongoing labor negotiations between the rail carriers and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC). Below is from ONE for your reference.

Key Updates:

1. Embargo on Toxic Inhalation Hazard (TIH/PIH) and Rail Security-Sensitive Materials (RSSM):

This embargo on sensitive cargo has been in effect since August 12, 2024, to ensure the safety and security of shipments during the potential disruption.

2. Embargo on Live Reefer and Dangerous Goods (DG) Commodities:

Embargoes on live reefer and DG commodities have been implemented on a lane-specific basis. Gate closures for shipments to BC Ports began at eastern origins on August 14, 2024, while closures for the Port of Halifax will be enforced by August 17, 2024. The import of live reefers via Vancouver has already been suspended as of August 13, 2024. Our dedicated cargo management team will notify affected customers directly with updated booking information.

3. Embargo for Interchange Cargo:

Acceptance of live reefer and DG commodities for cross-border interchange will end on August 15, 2024, and a full embargo on all interchange cargo will be effective August 16, 2024.

4. Non-DG Dry Cargo:

Non-DG dry cargo will continue to be accepted at inland terminals until August 21, 2024. Further acceptance of laden or empty containers will depend on the terminal capacity and the progression of the labor action.
