West Coast Port Workers in Canada to Strike Starting July 1
Dear Customer,
We would like to inform you that in a recent vote held from June 9th-10th, 99.24% of ILWU Canada voted to support a strike at US west coast ports. After union members voted overwhelmingly, ILWU Canada has issued a notice on June 28 to strike at West Coast ports in Canada, effective July 1. The strike will have the most significant impact on the Port of Vancouver, which is Canada's largest port.
As the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority reports, while the main impact will be on Canadian trade, approximately 15% of containerized trade through the Port of Vancouver originates from or to the United States, so U.S. trade might also be potentially impacted.
USPTI will continue to monitor the situation and will be updating you if any progress upon this. In case you have any questions, please contact your sales rep or our team; we are all happy to help.
